Mario Wallpaper

Having a love of video games and nostalgia for Mario, I had a burst of inspiration from doodling some vertical bars and thought "wouldn't it be cool to have an illustration within the bars that are within the confines of the page itself?".

Almost immediately afterwards, I associated the vertical bars with the pipes from playing almost any Mario game. Additionally ideas raced in my mind involving negative space like how the primary imagery could be isolated to just within the tubes but have some elements expand beyond those boundaries. The humourous side of me didn't take long to emerge and connect the entire illustration with leg day at the gym given Mario and Luigi can't afford such luxuries.
